The GP-5-12module features ploy-crystalline photovoltic cell technology. The 36 square solar cells are encapsulated beneath high transmission tempered glass using an advanced, UV resistant thermal setting plastic. The encapsulant ethylene vinyl acetate (EVA) cushions the solar cells within the laminate and ensures the operating characteristics of the solar cells under virtually any climatic conditions. The rear surface of the module is completely sealed from moisture and mechanical damage by a continuous high strength polymer sheet. The glass/tedlar construction of the module minimizes weight while providing a durable, protective environment for the solar cells. Here's how the MP1 Kit works: You plug the USB Cable into the the USB Converter included with the MP1 Kit. The USB Converter plugs into any of our EverLite Lamps and provides USB output power. Then, you select the correct cell phone adapter plug from the MP1 Kit and plug it into the USB Cable and then into your cell phone, MP3 player, digital camera, GPS locator or other hand-held electronic device. Your cell phone or other device will indicate charging. NOTE: Not all devices will become fully charged from all the EverLite lamp products, because it depends on how much charge is in your EverLite Lamp and how depleted your cell phone or other device might be. However, as soon as you plug into a dead cell phone, you can begin talking right away -- You don't have to wait for your cell phone to be fully charged. A dead battery is an all-too- common occurrence in a boat that sits idle most work weeks, and when it happens it nearly always spoils a planned day or weekend on the water. This unhappy circumstance can be avoided with the installation of a small solar panel. As an added benefit, absolutely nothing prolongs the life of a battery like keeping it fully charged. A battery charger can do the job for a boat on a trailer or at a dock, but there are risks to leaving an unattended boat plugged in. A solar panel avoids these. If your boat is on a mooring, a solar panel is the only practical choice for maintaining batteries at full charge. Small boats: The SM20 solar panel can keep the battery fully charged when the boat is on the trailer or sitting at her slip. All batteries self-discharge, and a small panel can eliminate the problems caused by dead batteries. Using a panel to maintain a battery is also useful on bigger boats that are on a mooring. Without shore power, these boats need a way to keep batteries charged. Since solar panels put out pure DC power, the SM20 are excellent chargers and they do not need a regulator in the circuit when for batteries 100AH or greater. Cruising and racing sailboats can use solar panels to augment or replace their other charging sources. Many sailboats that go on long passages have to use their propulsion engine for 1 to 2 hours per day to charge batteries and replace the energy that has been consumed. With a couple of solar panels installed, these boats can often extend their time between engine uses by a day or more. Truly efficient solar-equipped boats may not have to use the engine for charging at all. Suction cups for deck mounting included.
